The flight market in the US is large – not only when it comes to the number of travelers. In this guide we have listed the ten longest domestic routes in the country.
In the following list you find the ten longest domestic routes in North America when it comes to nautical miles – all located in the US. The compilation was made by OAG in 2020* and all the routes connect one of the Hawaiian airports to the mainland.
1. Boston (BOS) - Honolulu (HNL)
The longest domestic route in the US is the one connecting Boston to Honolulu. The route is operated by several airlines, such as United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and American Airlines. If you choose this flight, you can count on a flying time of more than eleven hours.
2. Honolulu (HNL) - New York (JFK)
The silver medal on the list goes to the route between Honolulu and JFK airport in New York. The flight time on the route, if choosing a direct flight, is a little less than ten hours. Here you can choose to fly with operators like Hawaiian Airlines, Jetblue Airways or American Airlines.
3. Newark (EWR) - Honolulu (HNL)
New York has several large airports from which you can find both domestic and international flights. Just like number two on the list, this route connects New York to Honolulu – with Newark as the departing airport. The fastest flight between the two airports takes ten hours and 45 minutes.
4. Atlanta (ATL) - Honolulu (HNL)
If you want to travel between Atlanta and Honolulu, you can count on a minimal flight time of 9,5 hours. The majority of the flights are operated by Delta Air Lines, United Airlines or American Airlines.
5. Honolulu (HNL) - Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
The next route in this compilation is the connection between Honolulu and Chicago O’Hare. This route takes about eight hours if you choose a direct flight. If you want to fly between these two airports you can find options with operators like United Airlines, American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
6. Kahului (OGG) - Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
Another major airport in Hawaii, besides from Honolulu, is Kahului Airport. Number six on the list of the longest domestic routes in the US is the one between Kahului and Chicago O’Hare. A direct flight between the two airports takes a little less than eight hours, and you can choose between operators such as United Airlines, American Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
7. Honolulu (HNL) - Minneapolis/St Paul (MSP)
Honolulu is well connected to most parts of the US, and another long route is found between Honolulu and Minneapolis/St Paul. If you go by direct flight between these two airports, you can count on a flight time of around seven hours and 45 minutes. The flights are operated by airlines like Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
8. Honolulu (HNL) - Houston (IAH)
With almost the exact same flight time as the previous route on the list, you can find direct connections between Honolulu and Houston. The majority of the flights are operated by United Airlines, but you can also find a number of flights with for example American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Hawaiian Airlines.
9. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) - Honolulu (HNL)
Number nine of the list of the longest domestic routes in the US goes to the connection between Dallas Fort Worth and Honolulu. This popular flight takes about eight hours, and you can choose among operators such as American Airlines, United Airlines, Delta Air Lines and Hawaiian Airlines.
10. Dallas Fort Worth (DFW) - Kahului (OGG)
The last position on the list also connects Dallas to Hawaii, with the flight from Dallas Fort Worth to Kahului Airport. On this route, the majority of the flights are operated by American Airlines, even if other major airlines also offer daily flights. The flight time on a direct flight is about eight hours.
